Southern Ethiopia Explorer – 10 Days
Addis Ababa → Arba Minch → Omo Valley → Jinka → Lake Chamo
This 10-day journey through southern Ethiopia is designed to give travellers a deep look into the country’s culture, landscapes, and diverse communities. The trip begins in Addis Ababa, where on the first day you explore the capital’s key landmarks including Trinity Cathedral, the Ethnographic Museum, and Entoto Hills, along with visits to traditional markets where daily city life unfolds. The evening is spent in a comfortable hotel as you prepare for the journey south.
On the second day the route leads toward Arba Minch, with stops along the way at the rock-hewn church of Adadi Mariam and the mysterious stelae field of Tiya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. By the third day you reach the lakes region, where a boat trip on Lake Chamo offers close views of hippos, giant crocodiles, and rich birdlife before continuing deeper into the south toward Jinka, passing through villages of the Gamo and Derashe peoples and, when timing allows, the lively Key Afar market.
The fourth day is dedicated to Mago National Park, where you travel into the open plains to visit the Mursi community and learn about their distinctive traditions, before returning to Jinka for the night. On the following day the journey continues to Turmi, home of the Hamer people, with visits en route to the Benna and Ari communities and the chance to learn about Hamer ceremonies and lifestyle.
During the sixth day you travel from Turmi to Omorate, crossing the Omo River to visit the Dassanech people who live along its banks, gaining insight into their pastoral way of life before returning to Turmi. The seventh day brings further exploration of the valley with visits toward Kangatan and Murele to meet the Nyangatom and Karo communities, known for their body decoration, river settlements, and strong cultural identity.
Leaving the lower valley behind, the eighth day takes you to Konso, where terraced hillsides and well-planned villages reflect centuries of agricultural tradition. On the ninth day you travel north toward Hawassa, stopping in the Guge Mountains to visit a Dorze village, famous for its tall bamboo houses and weaving culture, before enjoying a peaceful evening beside the lake.
On the final day you return to Addis Ababa, pausing at Rift Valley lakes known for their birdlife. The journey ends with a farewell dinner featuring Ethiopian music and dance, bringing together ten days of culture, landscapes, and encounters across southern Ethiopia.

02.
Northern Ethiopia Discovery – 10 Days
Addis Ababa →Harar→ Bahir Dar → Gondar → Axum → Lalibela.
This 10-day journey through northern Ethiopia combines historic cities, dramatic landscapes, and unforgettable natural wonders. The trip begins in Harar, where on the first day you explore the UNESCO-listed walled city on foot, wandering through narrow alleys, markets, traditional houses, and museums that reveal the town’s rich history and coffee culture. During the day you can also witness the traditional feeding of eagles around the city, and in the evening experience Harar’s famous hyena feeding outside the old walls, a unique local tradition found nowhere else. If time allows, you may also visit the nearby Valley of Marvels before spending the night in a local hotel.
The following day you travel to Awash National Park, crossing volcanic scenery before spending the afternoon exploring the savannah, watching for wildlife and birds, and visiting the Awash River gorge and waterfalls, with an overnight stay in a lodge surrounded by nature.
On the third day the journey turns toward the Afar region and the Danakil Depression. Travelling via Lake Afdera, you continue to the base of Erta Ale volcano and trek up to the rim in the evening to witness the glowing lava lake after dark, camping overnight near the crater. The next day is dedicated to exploring the salt flats around Lake Assale, watching camel caravans and local miners at work, and visiting the colourful geothermal formations of Dallol, one of Ethiopia’s most surreal landscapes.
Leaving the desert behind, by the fifth day you drive north to Mekelle for rest before continuing into the Gheralta Mountains. Here you hike to remarkable rock-hewn churches hidden in the cliffs, including the dramatic ascent to Abune Yemata, before continuing on to Axum for the night.
In Axum, you explore ancient obelisks, archaeological sites, and historic churches that reflect the legacy of one of Africa’s earliest kingdoms, before travelling toward the Simien Mountains. Over the next two days you walk along the escarpments of the national park, enjoying wide mountain views, spotting Gelada baboons, and trekking to viewpoints such as Jinbar Waterfall before continuing to Gondar.
The final day is spent exploring Gondar’s royal castles and the beautifully painted church of Debre Berhan Selassie, offering a glimpse into Ethiopia’s imperial past, before flying back to Addis Ababa where the journey concludes.

Grand Northern Ethiopia Expedition – 15 Days
Addis Ababa → Harrer →Awash→Danakil → Simien Mountains → Tigray →Blue Nile → Arba Minch → Omo
This 15-day journey is designed for travellers who want to experience Ethiopia in depth, from the historic cities of the north to the cultures of the south. The adventure begins in Harar, where on the first day you explore the UNESCO-listed walled city on foot, wandering through narrow alleys, colourful markets, traditional houses, and coffee stalls that fill the air with roasted aromas. In the evening, the famous hyena feeding outside the city walls offers a truly unforgettable local tradition.
The following day you travel to Awash National Park, crossing volcanic landscapes before spending the afternoon exploring the savannah, spotting wildlife and birds, and visiting the dramatic Awash River gorge and waterfalls, with an overnight stay in a lodge surrounded by nature.
On the third day the scenery changes completely as you head into the Afar region and the Danakil Depression. Passing Lake Afdera and its desert settlements, you continue to the base of Erta Ale and trek up to the volcano, where the glowing lava lake can be seen after dark, an experience few places in the world can offer. The next day is spent exploring the salt flats of Lake Assale, watching camel caravans and miners at work, visiting the colourful geothermal formations of Dallol, and taking in one of Ethiopia’s most surreal landscapes before camping under the desert sky.
By the fifth day you leave the desert behind and drive north toward Mekelle for rest and recovery before continuing the journey into the Gheralta Mountains. Here you hike to remarkable rock-hewn churches perched high in the cliffs, including the dramatic climb to Abune Yemata. From there the route leads to Axum, where ancient obelisks, archaeological remains, and historic churches reveal the legacy of one of Africa’s oldest kingdoms.
On the eighth and ninth days you enter the Simien Mountains, walking along escarpments with sweeping views, where Gelada baboons graze along the cliffs and the high altitude makes the landscape feel vast and wild. The trek continues toward Gondar, where castles and painted churches reflect Ethiopia’s royal past. After exploring Gondar, the journey continues to Bahir Dar, where a boat trip on Lake Tana takes you to island monasteries before visiting the Blue Nile Falls.
Midway through the trip the focus shifts south as you fly to Arba Minch. Here you take a boat trip across Lake Chamo to see hippos, crocodiles, and birdlife, and visit Dorze mountain villages known for their distinctive bamboo houses and weaving traditions. Continuing deeper into the south, you travel toward Jinka, passing through villages and markets where different communities gather to trade and socialise.
On the final days you explore the Omo Valley, visiting local communities and travelling to Omorate to meet the Dassanech along the Omo River, gaining insight into lifestyles that remain closely connected to the land. The journey concludes with your return to Addis Ababa, bringing together two weeks of landscapes, history, wildlife, and cultural encounters into one complete Ethiopian experience.
